The SVRSP is an association that fosters and advances philosophy of law and social philosophy in all its aspects. It provides a forum for all interested in these realms. To fulfil this task it organizes regularly congresses and symposia, and informs about its activities and about recent publications in a biannual newsletter.

Further, the SVRSP is interested in enhancing the position of basic sciences within the curriculum of law schools. Cutbacks in this realm are seldom if ever reasonable. Beginning by arguing about fundamental questions basic sciences provide an excellent opportunity for showcase learning.

The SVRSP represents also the Swiss section of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR, founded in 1909). Through the co-operation with IVR Sections form all over the world, the SVRSP tries to avert provincial developments within philosophy of law and social philosophy
